How to use Compress Image

  1. Choose your picture and select Continue.
  2. Choose Balanced, Smaller file, or Smallest file, then select Compress image.
  3. Compare the finished picture and file size, then download your copy.

Compress Image: what to know

Choose Balanced to keep the original dimensions, Smaller file for everyday sharing, or Smallest file when size matters most. The last two options can also reduce picture dimensions while keeping its shape. The tool chooses an output format your browser supports and preserves transparent areas. If no result is smaller, you can download the unchanged original, including its existing metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Is compression lossless?

JPEG and WebP output can discard visual detail. Keep an original copy and compare the preview before using a compressed image.

Will every image get smaller?

An already optimized image may not shrink. We only offer a new compressed file when it is smaller; otherwise we explain that your original is unchanged. Try a smaller preset if you are comfortable reducing the picture’s dimensions.

Which format will I download?

The tool selects a supported JPG, PNG, or WebP format automatically and shows it in the download filename. Transparent areas stay transparent. A browser that cannot save WebP can use another supported format.

Is this tool free?

Compress Image is free to use without an account. File and processing limits are displayed in the tool.
